PM Tsipras meets Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly President Pedro Agramunt

Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras on Monday met Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly (PACE) President Pedro Agramunt, currently on a visit to Athens, and discussed the importance of the CoE’s values and principles in facing the current economic, social and security challenges.

Agramunt noted the active and positive contribution of the Greek deputies in PACE, with whom he had excellent cooperation. He also praised the way the Greek people and government were handling the humanitarian crisis.

Tsipras, on his part, said the refugee crisis had shown that solidarity had gone from being a founding principle of Europe to something to be striven for politically and repeated that the EU-Turkey agreement on refugee flows must be implemented without obstacles. As the Greek government had noted from the start, he added, an agreement with problems was still better than no agreement at all.

Tsipras and Agramunt also discussed the Greek premier’s attendance of the upcoming PACE session in Strasbourg on June 22.
