Tsipras announces tripartite meeting between Greece, Cyprus and Israel early January

Greece and Israel have decided to continue their intergovernmental meetings in January 2016, probably in Jerusalem, Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras said on Wednesday after a meeting with his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu, also adding that “we move forward with the realisation of a tripartite meeting between Greece-Cyprus-Israel.”

He added that this tripartite will probably take place in Cyprus, but this will be determined, as he said, after a consultation with the Cypriot President, Nicos Anastasiades, “in order to see on the table in what areas concrete steps can be taken so that the talks we had today, identifying areas of cooperation and intervention, can have a substantial effect, and be practical rather than remain only on paper. ”

Tsipras also spoke of an “enormous potential in energy cooperation” between Greece and Israel.

In particular, Tsipras referred also to the fields of exploration, extraction and transportation of natural gas through Greece`s mainland, as well as to the cooperation with Israel in other “crucial areas” such as the economy, energy, tourism and growth.
