Pavlopoulos: Greece will not take a single step back on its national rights

Greece will not take a single step back on its national rights, Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos said on Wednesday in a message to Turkey, adding however that the country is extending a hand of friendship to its neighbor.

“We extend a hand of friendship, peace and cooperation in these difficult times. I personally think that we have more things that unite us, than things that divides us,” Pavlopoulos said during a visit to the island of Chios.

However, “we will not take a single step back on our national rights. We defend our country, our borders, based on all international law, written and customary, and we want the same from Turkey. A respect for international law,” he noted.

The president also said that “by realizing the mistakes or crimes one has made in the past, one can then build a future as befits countries whose fate is to live together.”
