Main opposition leader slams ‘neoliberal, callous Left’

The measures being voted in parliament on Thursday evening are government proposals and were not approved by New Democracy, main opposition leader Vangelis Meimarakis said on Thursday during a debate in parliament on the prior actions bill demanded by Greece’s lenders.

“If we had voted for them, you wouldn’t have to bring them to parliament today,” the leader of New Democracy said, noting that the measures proposed by the “neoliberal and callous Left turns pensions into tips, cuts benefits for heating oil and opens for the first time the way for foreclosures.”

Commenting on the measures concerning the primary residence, Meimarakis noted that New Democracy had protected citizens during the crisis and there had not been a single foreclosure.

Democratic Coalition leader says people will lose their homes because of the government’s bill

The leader of the Democratic Coalition, Fofi Gennimata, accused the government of being insensitive to the problems facing the people, as the omnibus bill being voted in parliament with its article on foreclosures will summarily kick people out of their homes.

“We’ll have to admit you were goo at selling and now even better as fire sales,” Gennimata said in parliament during the debate on the bill. “You lied and … today you sell out hope,” she added.
