Greece will play leading role in EU-Turkey deliberations on the refugees issue




Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras’ imminent visit to Turkey on Nov. 17-18 will focus on international and regional developments, while special emphasis will be given to the refugee issue and bilateral relations.

The Greek prime minister will carry out a working visit to Ankara on 18 November at the invitation of Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, extended during their meeting on the sidelines of a UN General Assembly. While in Ankara, he will meet with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Tsipras referred to his visit to Turkey at a cabinet meeting, noting that the Greek government will play a leading role in EU-Turkey deliberations over the management of the refugees crisis.

Before his visit to Ankara, the prime minister with Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew in Istanbul, where he will also attend a friendly match between the Greek and Turkish national football teams on November 17.
