Μπαν κι Μουν και Γκιούλ συζήτησαν το Κυπριακό στη Χάγη

«Είναι ζωτικής σημασίας να διατηρηθεί η τρέχουσα δυναμική στο Κυπριακό» συμφώνησαν ο γενικός γραμματέας των Ηνωμένων Εθνών, Μπαν Κι-μουν και ο πρόεδρος της Τουρκίας, Αμπντουλάχ Γκιουλ, κατά τη σημερινή συνάντησή τους στο περιθώριο της συνόδου για την Πυρηνική Ασφάλεια στη Χάγη.
Σύμφωνα με εκπρόσωπο του Γενικού Γραμματέα στην έδρα του διεθνούς οργανισμού στη Νέα Υόρκη, το θέμα της Κύπρου ήταν ανάμεσα στα ζητήματα που συζήτησε ο Μπαν Κι-μουν με τον Τούρκο πρόεδρο. «Συζήτησαν την τρέχουσα κατάσταση και την περαιτέρω πορεία των συνομιλιών για συνολική διευθέτηση του Κυπριακού» επισήμανε, προσθέτοντας ότι «και οι δύο συμφώνησαν ότι είναι ζωτικής σημασίας να διατηρηθεί η τρέχουσα δυναμική, μετά την επανέναρξη πλήρων διαπραγματεύσεων τον Φεβρουάριο».
Τέλος, σημείωσε ότι «ο Γενικός Γραμματέας ενθάρρυνε την Τουρκία να συνεχίσει να συμμετέχει ενεργά και εποικοδομητικά στο Κυπριακό και τους ευχαρίστησε για την υποστήριξή τους».
Όπως δήλωσε ο εκπρόσωπος του Γενικού Γραμματέα, στη συνάντηση συζητήθηκε επίσης το θέμα της Συρίας και οι προοπτικές των συνομιλιών της Γενεύης, ενώ ο Μπαν Κι-μουν εξέφρασε τη «βαθιά ανησυχία» του για την ανθρωπιστική κατάσταση.

General met today in The Hague with H.E. Mr. Abdullah Gül, President of the Republic of Turkey.
The Secretary-General and President Gül had a detailed discussion on the grave situation in Syria and on prospects for the Geneva talks. The Secretary-General expressed deep concern about the humanitarian situation and emphasized the need to ensure the delivery of aid. The Secretary-General expressed his appreciation for Turkey’s strong and continued support for Syrian refugees.
They also discussed the incidents over the weekend at the Turkish-Syrian border. The Secretary-General urged restraint by all to avoid the situation escalating
further.
On Cyprus, the Secretary-General and the President discussed the current state of play and the way forward in the talks for a comprehensive settlement of the Cyprus issue. They both agreed that it was critical to maintain the current momentum following the February resumption of full fledged negotiations. The Secretary-General encouraged Turkey to continue to engage actively and constructively on the Cyprus issue and thanked them for their support.
