Bruckner: We have to destroy the monster born in Iraq and Syria

Acclaimed French author and philosopher Pascal Bruckner said the Jihadists who spread terror in Paris last Friday are the enemy of the West and noted the unity displayed among world leaders as a result of the attacks in the French capital.

“We have to destroy the monster that was born in Iraq and Syria. Jihadists are the common enemy of the West and I think what happened in Paris on Friday is only the beginning,” Bruckner told journalists during a press conference in Athens, ahead of the presentation of his new book “Un bon fils” (A Good Son) at the Cycladic Art Museum. “The massacre at Charlie Hebdo was the terrorists’ general rehearsal,” he added.

Speaking about the recent events and religious fanaticism, he said: “They hit the youth, beautiful young girls and boys because they represent life, happiness, because for jihadists, our existence is by itself a scandal”. The ISIS terrorists, he added, proclaim they do not fear of death -which is true – but they don’t say that what they fear is life, freedom and equality. “Death is for them a metaphysical promise of instant fame.”

He also hailed the unity expressed by the U.S., French and British leaders in the face of terror. “Obama, Hollande, Cameron unite before the joint enemy and this is a very important fact.”
